Synopsis: An older couple in love decide to take the next step in their relationship and get married. they move in together bringing both their sons Dale and Brennan into the household, both men are in their 40’s with the mental age of 6 year olds, because of traumatic incidents in their lives they still live with their parents. As they come close to ruining the marriage they realise they really have to sort the differences between them to make things work. It’s your typical Will Ferrell film and what a great idea for his part to be a traumatized 39 year old man who has the mind of a child, chuck in John C. Reilly as his dim witted 40 year old step brother and you’re bound to have some laughs as the pair fight each other over who get the remote control. As the film started to move into the 2nd act the comedy started to become a bit dry to me and most things I had seen in the trailers already. It wasn’t that I was board but to me it was just your average boys become step brothers, hate each other at first then become friends sort of film and then where else can you take it from there? I couldn’t really see where the film was heading but there were some great cusses thrown to each other in the scene where the family are eating dinner. Then came the end. I must admit it had me in hysterics, it must have just touched a nerve but I thought it was great how all throughout the film there’s a slight mention of Brennan and his wonderful singing voice. It was a good to watch with a group of friends but if this movie premiered on sky movies I wouldn’t stay in and stock up on my popcorn just to watch it with my girlfriend.
Worth seeing in the cinema: MAYBE (if you’re a fan of Will Ferrell)
Worth buying on DVD: YES (to add to the Will Ferrell collection)
