Pineapple Express

Synopsis: A stoner (Seth Rogan) witnesses a drug lord and a crocked cop commit a murder, in shock he drops the joint he’s smoking on the ground as he hits other cars trying to escape. Running back to his dealer’s house (James Franco) they both work out the drug lord can trace them back to his place because of the rare strain of cannabis called pineapple express.

For a stoner film I thought it was brilliant, a group of comedians get given a high budget to produce an action film about getting stoned. When compared to other stoner films such as Cheech & Chong, Harold & Kumar and Dude, Where's My Car? It beats all of them with high octane car chases and guns and gore. As a fan of the movies that this group of lads I would point out one thing it’s not as funny as Super Bad but up there with Knocked Up especially if you can relate to some things in the movie e.g. if you enjoy eating a lot of munchies. The script itself is a little bit weak in some parts but that’s probably due to the fact that most of these films are improvised which gives it the realness instead of robot dialogue and the relationship between Rogan and Franco, you can tell comes back from their days working on the set for ‘Freaks and Geeks.’ Although some people have said to me that the ending is so fake, personally I think you can deal with it if you know what kind of movie it is.

Worth seeing in the cinema: YES (if you enjoy a good old stoner film)

Worth buying on DVD: YES (extras will be great)
